A very fine oil on copper representing the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus with a basket of roses, within the contemporary Salvator Rosa style gilt wood frame with three orders of carvings.
Roman school, unknown painter, from the mid 18th century, 1730/40 circa
Dimensions: the painting cm 24,5 x 19 ~ framed cm 37 x 30
Excellent conditions commensurate with age, old retouches.
On the back of the copper is hand written in french the following: ”Ce tableau ete’ donne’ a M. Guillaume avec l’ordre quil la rapporte de Rom pour le Pere de St. Egnacie jesuite theologien de Clemente XIII qui etait cure’ en Chateau de St. Ange dans le temps du conclave du Papae Pie VI”.(This painting was given to Mr. Guillaume with the order that he brings it back from Rome for the father of St. Ignatius, a Jesuit theologian of Clement XIII who was parish priest in the Castel St Angel at the time of the Conclave of Pope Pius VI).
