Beautiful repousse and chiseled oval silver plaque depicting the Madonna and Child and angels, within contemporary embossed and mercury-gilt copper frame.
Mary is depicted in the foreground half-length, with the Child lying on a classical-style canopy on a cloth held by the Virgin. On either side of Mary's head are cherubs contemplating the scene, surrounded by clouds. The scene is completed by an architectural silhouette in the background, worked in perspective.
Presumably Roman manufacture of the mid-18th century, c. 1750/60.
Dimensions 30 x 17.5 x 2 cm.
Excellent condition, commensurate with use and age.
