The work is presented within a meticulously crafted gilded wood frame adorned with pure gold leaf and delicate stucco, characteristic of the sophisticated Louis XVI style.
Measuring 28.5 x 21 cm, excluding the frame, this piece not only embodies a spiritual narrative but also serves as a remarkable example of the refined aesthetic of its time. The attribution to Jacques Stella, a notable artist from Lyon who flourished in Paris during the early 17th century, adds an extra layer of significance to the painting's provenance.
In excellent condition, commensurate with its age, this artwork is a testament to both its artistic merit and historic value, making it a truly captivating addition to any discerning collection of fine art.
Jaques Stella: Painter and engraver (Lyon 1596 - Paris 1657). Was a pupil of his father François, a painter of Flemish origin (d. Lyons 1605). In Florence (1619-23) Jaques worked for Cosimo II de' Medici especially as an engraver, in the manner of J. Callot. After a long stay in Rome (1623-34), he worked for the court of Paris and for churches in Lyon and the provinces, also enjoying success for his small paintings on precious stones or marbles. The influence of N. Poussin, with whom he had formed a profound friendship in Rome, dominates his mature works.
