Paperweight Arch mosaic and marbles
A beautifully crafted slate desk paperweight is elegantly inset with a meticulously detailed micromosaic that depicts the impressive Arch of Septimius Severus. This fascinating scene includes not only the arch itself but also the iconic columns of the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, set against the backdrop of the historic Capitoline Hill. The exquisite artwork is framed by a banded malachite border and complemented by an array of various Roman inlaid marble specimens and pebbles, showcasing the artistry of the period.
This remarkable piece was manufactured in Rome during the mid-19th century, specifically around 1850.
With dimensions of 19 x 12.5 cm, it remains in excellent condition that is commensurate with its age and history, though there is slight chipping observable along the edges.
