Ippolito Caffi (Belluno 1809 – Lissa 1866) - Panoramic view of Rome taken from the tower of Capitoline Hill.

Hand colored lithograph, 1839 , signed and dated lower right and left.

Excellent specimen , printed on four sheets of paper put together.

This view is ideally taken from the tower of the Capitol turning from left to right 360 degrees , with a depiction that starts from the Pincio and close to Piazza del Popolo . The work is printed by the print shop Kier of Venice and in the lower margin carries a legend of 69 numbers . The plant of the view is still that of a painter of eighteenth-century tradition , keeping in mind the definition that the same Caffi , then 30 years old , gave of himself : " painter of prospectives " . Emilio King in the biography of the artist 's exhibition in Rome of 1959 defines , even then , " rare " the view . Bibliography : Views Romane , pp . 13 , 50 , n . 74 ; Rome View , p . 221 , 67; The plants in the private collections of Rome , p . 344 , 276. Dimensions 1450x145 .
