A remarkable slate fine and large desk paperweight is elegantly inset with a stunning micromosaic that depicts the iconic Colosseum, encircled by an unusual banded floral garland and bordered with a classic Greek key design. This exquisite piece is beautifully surrounded by a selection of inlaid hardstone and marble specimens, showcasing the artistry of its time.
It is a product of Roman manufacture from the mid-19th century, dating back to circa 1850. The dimensions of this striking paperweight are 18.5 x 13 cm.
It is in excellent condition, which is commendable considering its age and the usage it has seen over the years, although there is slight chipping to the edges that is consistent with its history.
